MARKETS:
The Cargill crushing plant in Fargo will suspend
purchases of linoleic sunflowers on January 5, 2008 due
to a lack of available seed. If sufficient supplies
become available they will once again post prices. The
crushing plants are working closely with country
elevators for 2008 pricing and delivery at local
facilities. For example, the ADM plant in Goodland has
an aggressive bidding structure in more than 50 country
elevators located throughout KS, CO, NE, SD and OK.
According to Oil World, recent temperature extremes
including frost in the Buenos Aires province have done
considerable damage to wheat and corn crops. Some wheat
and corn fields will be abandoned, used for livestock
feed and will be replanted with soybeans. Adding in
double crop soybean acres will likely result in a record
for total oilseed plantings in Argentina this crop year.
